Three teams make finals

ARMADALE Cricket Club enjoyed a superb weekend, seeing three out of four teams progress to the grand final.

Armadale’s first grade, one day E and one day F sides all made their respective grand finals, while one day A heartbreakingly missed out on a grand final berth on the game’s final ball.

First grade won a thriller against Thornlie, as a superb spell from Chad Forsyth saw Thornlie collapse from 1-45 to 6-56.

But they fought back and despite Jake Forsyth taking two crucial wickets, Thornlie managed a commendable 176.

Armadale reached stumps at 116 with the game in the balance, and looked to be in trouble on day two when they slumped to 4-64.

Steady resistance from Anton Bickley (20) and Jeff Petrie (34) saw Armadale take control, although two quick wickets reduced them to 6-108.

Once again, the Forsyth brothers stood tall, guiding Armadale to 8-164, before a sensational 36no from Captain Damian Carroll helped secure Armadale’s spot in the grand final.

One day A lost on the final ball against Kenwick, despite reaching 7-185. Oswin D’Sylva’s brilliant 58 proved the catalyst for their tidy total, and they looked to be heading to the final when Kenwick fell to 4-61.

One day E took on Cockburn, reducing their opponents to 4-44.

Despite a brief fightback, excellent bowling from Jim McClure (476, including 0-14 from 8 overs) and Peter Smith (3-15) left Armadale in the driver’s seat as Cockburn were dismissed for 122.

Rhett Jones (37) and Smith (24no) played their part to perfection as Armadale cruised home by seven wickets.

Great bowling from one day F’s James Ogden (3-22), Joe Facey (2-7 off 5.2 overs) and Rob Goscombe (2-11 off 4 overs) dismissed Kardinya for just 78.

Will Watson’s 34 steadied a shaky start from Armadale and despite four quick wickets, they calmly progressed in the end to win by five wickets.
