Church knocked back

A SECOND attempt by the Evangel Christian Fellowship to get approval for a church building in Darling Downs has been knocked back by the Shire of Serpentine Jarradale. The Fellowship had proposed a church to accommodate up to 120 people on two lots that total 4ha, off Masters Road. The application attracted 86 complaints and six letters of support. A previous application was refused last June because it was not considered to be appropriate land use in the Residential and Stables policy area, and the proposal had not adequately addressed environmental concerns including traffic movements, noise pollution, the impact on wetland in the lots and treatment of stormwater. The second application altered the siting and scale of the church but was still considered by officers of the Shire, and ultimately councillors, to not be an appropriate land use.
