Band tunes up for meet
ARMADALE City Concert Band is set to take to the road for the first time in its history.
The musicians are going to Launceston, Tasmania, over the Easter weekend to perform a challenging competition repertoire at the National Band Championships.
It is the only band from Western Australia competing this year, with members aged from 14 to 60-plus.
The hardworking team will be under the baton of musical director Amanda Johnson.
“We’re preparing ourselves to be judged against the national standard,” Ms Johnson said. “It’s exciting, but daunting.”
Ms Johnson said the band wasn’t competing to win but for personal improvement.
“The onus is on each individual player to bring what they’ve got to that moment,” Ms Johnson said. “That’s what makes it so tremendously exciting and nerve-racking.”
She took over the position of musical director from Don Cook in 2015 and described Mr Cook as a tour de force in the Armadale City Concert Band .
