Dancers shine at fest

ARMADALE showed off some of its tal­ented young­sters on stage at the Bayswa­ter Dance Fes­ti­val dur­ing the school hol­i­days.

The Elite Dance Com­pany placed in 43 rou­tines with a group of dancers be­tween five and 14.

The dancers took out 16 first place awards and one re­ceived a per­pet­ual tro­phy for be­ing named Sub Ju­nior Dancer of the Fes­ti­val.

The girls prac­ticed sev­eral times a week in prepa­ra­tion for the com­pe­ti­tion, in­clud­ing pri­vate lessons, with the ad­ju­di­ca­tor com­mend­ing the team on their “fresh” chore­og­ra­phy.

Stu­dio owner Brooke Fitzger­ald has been teach­ing dance for 15 years. and op­er­at­ing Elite for five.

She en­cour­ages her dance com­mu­nity to take to so­cial me­dia with the hash­tag #un­leashtheel­ite.

She said the young dancers were ded­i­cated and de­ter­mined.

“I was a dancer my­self,” she said. “I love watch­ing the hard work they put in. They go on stage and shine and you can see it pay­ing off when they en­joy them­selves.”

Elite teaches a va­ri­ety of styles, from jazz to tap, bal­let, hip hop, con­tem­po­rary and lyri­cal.

Ms Fitzger­ald said lo­cal kids with an eye on get­ting into dance should jump in and give it a go.

“Do your re­search on a stu­dio, be­lieve in your­self, and have fun,” she said.

The Elite Dance Com­pany team did well at the Bayswa­ter Dance Fes­ti­val re­cently.
