BROOKE Clappinson has hit a home run to success.

The Year 10 student from Kelmscott Senior High School has been selected for the School Sports WA 17-and-under girls softball team.

She will represent the state in Adelaide in December.

The 15-year-old, who also does cheerleading and plays netball, said she had been playing softball for the past two years and came to love the sport.

“I used to watch my mum play a lot of softball, and I always thought it was a cool sport, but I never thought I could do it.

“I gave it a shot – the first year I didn’t like it, then I kept going at it and I ended up really enjoying it,” Brooke said.

She said she felt greatly relieved to be selected for the state team.

“I felt really privileged to be able to trial for it and make it and be taught by people with that high ability,” she said.

“I love the rush you get when you play.

“The adrenaline pumps through you, especially when it’s a tight game. Though you may not win, it’s still a good outcome.”

The future looks bright for the young softball star.

“I would love to represent my country in softball, and just to be able to teach and pass on my knowledge to younger kids,” she said.

Brooke Clappinson says she’s thrilled to be selected for the state team.
