Mr McNally said mem­ber coun­cils re­cy­cled about 60,000 tonnes per year.

In terms of long-term waste man­age­ment strate­gies, the RRC had en­tered in to a con­tract to pro­vide the dis­pos­able waste streams from mem­ber coun­cils for the next 30 years to a En­ergy from Waste plant in Kwinana. The plant will use in­cin­er­a­tion to pro­duce en­ergy to power about 46,000 house­holds, re­cover about 8000 tonnes of me­tals, and cre­ate by-prod­ucts such as bricks. Con­struc­tion is set to start early next year.
