Driver cops more fines

A KELMSCOTT man has been fined $400 for driv­ing a homemade mo­tor­cy­cle while his li­cence was sus­pended.

Paul Martin Reinsma faced Armadale Mag­is­trates Court on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 17, charged with one count of driv­ing or us­ing a ve­hi­cle that did not com­ply with road stan­dards and one count of driv­ing while his li­cence was un­der fines sus­pen­sion.

Po­lice prose­cu­tor Alan Bunce said that around 11.30am on July 28, po­lice were con­duct­ing in­quiries in the Camillo area, and tried to get Mr Reinsma to stop on his mo­tor­cy­cle on Trangie Way.

The ac­cused did not stop but po­lice caught up with him af­ter the mo­tor­cy­cle gave out, find­ing the ve­hi­cle not road com­pli­ant and lack­ing lights.

Reinsma said he had been putting the mo­tor­cy­cle to­gether him­self. He said he was on a test drive and un­able to hear po­lice over his hel­met, un­til his bike “conked out”.

The mag­is­trate said the man had to be care­ful he did not cross the line on es­cap­ing po­lice pur­suit charges.

Reinsma was fined $100 for the ve­hi­cle, $300 for driv­ing while un­der sus­pen­sion and court costs.
