Driver cops more fines
A KELMSCOTT man has been fined $400 for driving a homemade motorcycle while his licence was suspended.
Paul Martin Reinsma faced Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 17, charged with one count of driving or using a vehicle that did not comply with road standards and one count of driving while his licence was under fines suspension.
Police prosecutor Alan Bunce said that around 11.30am on July 28, police were conducting inquiries in the Camillo area, and tried to get Mr Reinsma to stop on his motorcycle on Trangie Way.
The accused did not stop but police caught up with him after the motorcycle gave out, finding the vehicle not road compliant and lacking lights.
Reinsma said he had been putting the motorcycle together himself. He said he was on a test drive and unable to hear police over his helmet, until his bike “conked out”.
The magistrate said the man had to be careful he did not cross the line on escaping police pursuit charges.
Reinsma was fined $100 for the vehicle, $300 for driving while under suspension and court costs.
