Lions’ gifts help students
THE Lions Club of Gosnells has celebrated the Lions’ International centennial by helping school students strengthen friendships.
In partnership with Gosnells Community Men’s Shed, the Lions Club provided 10 ‘buddy benches’ to local public schools.
The benches offer a spot for children feeling lonely or left out to sit down, while other children are encouraged to sit and talk to them.
Lions Club of Gosnells president Brian Beech said members had planned to build benches in parks. But when they found out the City of Gosnells were building their own benches, they switched to schools.
Mr Beech said he was pleased other schools had since contacted the club to ask if they could build a bench for them.
“Kids need this sort of thing. They get the benefits when they’re down and low; someone can come and cheer them up,” he said.
