Gosnells finally tastes victory
GOSNELLS Cricket Club has won its first Premier Cricket match of the season, running out fourwicket winners over Joondalup at Iluka Sporting Complex.
The visitors chased down Joondalup’s day one total of 268 to finish at 6-270 thanks to a stirling combined batting effort.
Gosnells started day two strongly, with Ben Green (72) and Jonathon Crowe (68) taking them to a comfortable 1-158.
Their middle order chipped in with some important runs, despite a lack of big individual scores, with only David Roberts (34) hanging around.
Aaron Keverne-Onyon finished what he started on day one as he reached 25 not out and hit the winning runs to go with his strong bowling performance.
Gosnells’ Second Grade side battled to a draw against its Joondalup counterparts in its two-day clash.
Chasing 236 for victory, Alistair Bivens (26) and Daniel Payne (26) looked comfortable early before the pair fell within four runs of each other, leaving Gosnells at 3-52.
From that point on, only Brodee Foster (22) was able to muster a meaningful score as the remainder of the Gosnells order dug in to salvage a draw.
Their final five batsmen scored 14 runs from 86 balls as they held on to claim a share of the points.
In other results, Gosnells’ 3rd Grade side claimed two-day honours over Joondalup thanks to sublime batting performances from Braydon Ridley (124 not out) and Sydney Menezes (87).
They chased down Joondalup’s paltry total of 58 with ease before declaring on 4-247.
