I am calling on the politicians and people of conscience – whichever party they represent to apply pressure on the Prime Minister (who claims to be a Christian) – to take compassionate action now regarding the situation at Manus.
Those refugees and asylum seekers on Manus have suffered tremendously for four years.
They fled persecution in their homeland (the likes of which most people in Australia cannot imagine) only to be further persecuted by the Australian Government and PNG local people.
I remind the politicians and the community that the PNG Commissioner of Police has said he cannot guarantee the refugees safety should they do as the Australian Government is forcing them to and move into the community.
The Australian Government is responsible for their ongoing persecutions and will be culpable for the outcome of this latest humanitarian crisis.
I ask you to put yourself in the refugees situation.
They have repeatedly been targeted, shot at, attacked and injured and killed by PNG locals and authorities.
So it is understandable they are afraid to move into the community with no protection. Bring them here to Australia.
They have suffered enough . ANDREA CALLAGHAN, Hilton FINALLY!!! People are too scared of change and development. These stores have been needed to draw more custom to that shopping centre to benefit existing small business owners. – Jennifer Keys
Watch that little park across from it fill up with undesirables, causing all kinds of hassles. Look what happens at Ashburton Rd shops – the same thing So glad it never went ahead while I was living just behind those shops. There are pubs and bottle shops close by. – Tash Woodward
I was the first person to get a petition and signatures against it and it was accepted. Before I left Huntingdale, another lady came around and signed a petition against a liquor shop there, they won't listen to the people who live in the area, I knew it – Beverley Anne Whittington
That little shopping centre was a gold mine when it first opened, but it’s not nowadays. That building in the middle of the carpark was to be a doctors surgery and pathology but it never got passed for that!! – Cindy Romaro
There goes Huntingdale shops. – Michael Meldrum
Readers on Facebook were vocal for and against a recently approved liquor store in Huntingdale.
