Sense of community
THE Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is hosting a series of free community barbecues in the lead up to Christmas to create safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods.
The community barbecue series allows residents to speak with Shire employees, Neighbourhood Watch volunteers and local police about strategies to promote a sense of community, while providing a chance to interact and make new friends.
Shire president Michelle Rich said the series was part of a wider effort to enhance the Shire’s already strong sense of community.
“One thing our residents really value is being part of such a vibrant, inclusive community where they feel safe and welcomed,” she said.
“We’re encouraging residents to come and meet those who also live locally and develop the kind of connections that help maintain community spirit.”
A Christmas event will be held at Bill Hicks Reserve in Byford on Friday, December 15, 4.30pm7.30pm, featuring local community groups and entertainment from the Armadale City Concert Band.
