Man shot by po­lice in Seville Grove

A MAN was in­jured in the shoul­der after he was shot by po­lice dur­ing an in­ci­dent in Seville Grove on Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers were in Fire­tail Court, Seville Grove, when they spot­ted an al­legedly stolen Subaru Im­preza hatch­back parked in a drive­way about 11am.

Of­fi­cers drove up be­hind the ve­hi­cle and its two oc­cu­pants be­fore al­leg­ing the Subaru re­versed into the po­lice car a num­ber of times, caus­ing sig­nif­i­cant dam­age.

The pas­sen­ger fled on foot and was chased by an of­fi­cer, while the driver con­tin­ued to hit the po­lice car un­til the Subaru was able to move past it.

Po­lice in­spec­tor Ge­off De­sanges said it was dur­ing this time that the 31year-old male driver was shot.

“The other po­lice of­fi­cer, for rea­sons that will be sub­ject to an in­ves­ti­ga­tion that is un­der­way as I speak, with­drew his firearm and dis­charged a round into the ve­hi­cle of in­ter­est. The round en­tered the ve­hi­cle through the wind­screen and struck the driver in the shoul­der,” he said.

The man was taken to hospital for treat­ment.

Of­fi­cers from the Po­lice In­ter­nal Af­fairs Unit and Homi­cide Squad are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the shoot­ing and the of­fi­cers in­volved will re­main on duty while the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing.

The 31-year-old driver from Ar­madale was charged with 18 counts of steal­ing, four counts of gains ben­e­fit by fraud, two counts of as­sault to pre­vent ar­rest and one count of steal mo­tor ve­hi­cle.

The 18-year-old pas­sen­ger from Hunt­ing­dale was charged with steal mo­tor ve­hi­cle and breach of bail.

Po­lice also charged a 31-year-old woman from South Lake with 26 counts of gains ben­e­fit by fraud, 16 counts of steal­ing, 13 counts of crim­i­nal dam­age or de­struc­tion of prop­erty, three counts of steal mo­tor ve­hi­cle and one count each of pos­sess drug para­pher­na­lia and pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty.
