Man shot by police in Seville Grove
A MAN was injured in the shoulder after he was shot by police during an incident in Seville Grove on Thursday afternoon.
Police said officers were in Firetail Court, Seville Grove, when they spotted an allegedly stolen Subaru Impreza hatchback parked in a driveway about 11am.
Officers drove up behind the vehicle and its two occupants before alleging the Subaru reversed into the police car a number of times, causing significant damage.
The passenger fled on foot and was chased by an officer, while the driver continued to hit the police car until the Subaru was able to move past it.
Police inspector Geoff Desanges said it was during this time that the 31year-old male driver was shot.
“The other police officer, for reasons that will be subject to an investigation that is underway as I speak, withdrew his firearm and discharged a round into the vehicle of interest. The round entered the vehicle through the windscreen and struck the driver in the shoulder,” he said.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
Officers from the Police Internal Affairs Unit and Homicide Squad are investigating the shooting and the officers involved will remain on duty while the investigation is ongoing.
The 31-year-old driver from Armadale was charged with 18 counts of stealing, four counts of gains benefit by fraud, two counts of assault to prevent arrest and one count of steal motor vehicle.
The 18-year-old passenger from Huntingdale was charged with steal motor vehicle and breach of bail.
Police also charged a 31-year-old woman from South Lake with 26 counts of gains benefit by fraud, 16 counts of stealing, 13 counts of criminal damage or destruction of property, three counts of steal motor vehicle and one count each of possess drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.
