Faced with budget cuts, the Dutch Theatre In­sti­tute or­gan­ised a fes­ti­val to raise its pro­file. Trapped in Sub­ur­bia cre­ated a bold iden­tity, lim­it­ing the pal­ette to black-and-white to help the print promo stand out, while also sym­bol­is­ing the cul­tural poverty re­sult­ing from re­duced bud­gets – which is mocked by the fool’s sin­is­ter grin.
