8. Polarity-flipping

Computer Music - - Make Music Now -

A simple yet effective way to refine the bass end of any mix is to experiment with the polarity of your kick and bass channels. Inevitably, there will be a certain amount of waveform cancellation or reinforcement when layering bass-rich sounds together, so by flipping one signal’s polarity, a stronger sound can sometimes be achieved. This technique is equally relevant when layering different synth bass parts together, as swapping the polarity of one layer can often make a massive difference in the power and girth of the overall composite bass sound.
