Reference

From the developer behind mix ‘advisor’ meter Levels comes Reference (VST/VST3/AU/AAX), a plugin designed to help you compare your mix or master against pro tracks. Load it on your master channel, drag in up to 20 reference tracks, then A/B between your mix and selected reference.

Next, compare LUFS (ie, average) and Peak levels, and automatically Level Match against your mix. For playback, you can Auto-Align and loop references. The lower Trinity Display is where you add, remove, adjust and solo frequency bands; it’s also here that Reference gives you information on the reference’s frequency, stereo content and dynamics in comparison to yours. We found this ‘intelligent metering’ rather effective, especially in situations when you’re unsure exactly why a pro track sounds ‘better’ than yours.

In a world of complex ‘mix assistants’ and do-it-all mastering solutions, Reference is an efficient, intuitive tool that will undoubtedly streamline your A/B comparison process, ultimately guiding you towards better mixing and mastering decisions in the studio.
