Bitwig Studio 2.4

Computer Music - - News -

It’s shaping up to be a very good year for Bitwig Studio fans, with the second major update of 2018 having landed. The big news is the “reborn” Sampler, which now packs in granular and wavetable capabilities, called Textures and Cycles modes respectively. The Multisample Editor has been substantially rejigged, with freely definable groups to streamline multi-zone editing. A new Select parameter determines which samples will be triggered. There are mod sources with perzone amounts; direct-from-disk playback; ping-pong looping; and more.

How about some new devices? ParSeq-8 is a “unique” modulation sequencer that modulates itself with each step; Note Counter creates repeating modulation patterns with each new note; and Note FX Layer yields “parallel note effects”. Further features include visualisations of hardware controllers, scene colouring, and adjustable track/scene width. Those Bitwig boffins have even added MIDI channel support.

v2.4 is a free update for owners of Bitwig Studio, which costs €379.
