CLASSIC FREE SOFTWARE

SMARTELECTRONIX LIVECUT

Computer Music - - News -

Not a single developer, but rather a collection of freeware and donationware providers, smartelectronix have been a go-to resource since the earliest days of VSTs. French developer Remy Muller’s smartelectronix contributions are released under the name mdsp, and one of his best is Livecut, a reworking of Nick Collins’ BBCut, written for SuperCollider. Livecut is a beat slicer, but forgoes the usual route of slicing a beat into equal-sized bits; instead, the length of the cuts and repetitions depends on context. Cuts are arranged into blocks, which are then formed into a phrase. Inspiring stuff. mdsp.smartelectronix.com
