CLASSIC FREE SOFTWARE

ANARCHY SOUND SOFTWARE SWARMSYNTH

Computer Music - - News -

We were a bit befuddled when SwarmSynth hit the market as a commercial synth. Indeed, its unusual synthesis method draws on a mathematical model based on flocking behaviour, a natural phenomenon seen in birds and insects – an odd basis for a synth!

Yet we can’t deny that this Windows-only instrument has a sound all of its own: brash and buzzy, quite aggressive, and often unexpected and interesting.

The developer eventually released SwarmSynth as freeware, and the source code has been made public as well, so there’s no risk in trying out this chaotic and cacophonous oddity. anarchysoundsoftware.co.uk
