The founder of event inspo website Lenzo helps party lovers find and sell decorations. Plus, she styles shoots, too – talk about fun!
When did your love of parties begin?
Since I can remember! Even as a threeyear-old, my favourite thing was to go to the local party shop and pre-plan my parties, carefully selecting a theme and then mixing and matching items to suit.
What was the first party you styled?
Probably my fourth birthday party, styled with all the little details! I’d start with a colour scheme and work from there – this hasn’t changed. One of the most memorable was my 16th birthday. I look back on it now and cringe, but at the time I thought it was very on point!
When did you decide to make a career out of it?
I was totally captivated by wedding magazines and blogs when planning my own. I soon realised it was something I was really passionate about (channeling my inner Martha Stewart).
How did your business begin?
After my wedding and 30th birthday I was left with a heap of on-trend styling stock that I just didn’t need anymore. I tried to sell it all through eBay and Gumtree and then realised there wasn’t anything that was just related to the events industry, so Lenzo was born. I also wanted to integrate our listings with inspirational content. The business is based on an advertising model – that’s also my background. I just thought, “Let’s do this!”
And is the business different now from when it started?
It’s really evolved. When we launched, it was focused on online listings (almost like a Gumtree or eBay for parties) – anyone could list a product for sale or hire. That’s still possible through the site, but more than anything, we are seeing huge popularity in our content and our online magazine, The Lenzo Edit. We’re now shooting new content every two to three weeks to keep inspiring our audience for their upcoming event.
Describe the typical Lenzo party…
Fun, fresh and happy! It’s about making people smile.
Tell us about an average day for you.
No day is the same. As we’re a small, growing business, my day involves both focusing on content (including planning shoots) but also the commercial side. It’s difficult when some areas don’t really fall within your expertise, but I’m learning each day. Our shoots can take up to two weeks in planning, shooting and then returning product… It is a mission, but it’s definitely my favourite part!
What do you love about weddings?
They bring two families together and give so much joy to not only the bride and groom, but everyone who cares about them. It’s funny, you learn so much about a couple on their wedding day, even if you’ve known the bride or groom your whole life!
What was your own wedding like?
I was married in Adelaide and come from a Greek background. It was the first wedding in our family, so we took one for the team and had a pretty big celebration – about 230 people. My husband is Australian, but he was just fantastic and embraced it. As you can imagine, I was very particular about all the details. We were married in 2010 – think vintage vases, fluffy flowers and draping! #thingshavechanged
