THREATS TO THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
Coral reefs collectively add up to less than 1% of the world’s marine environment, yet some scientists suggest they host as many as two million species. Unarguably beautiful, reefs are complex and fragile ecosystems. Estimates indicate that between 75 and 90% of them are in danger of destruction.
Reefs are being damaged by many different causes, all of which have one thing in common. They are the result of human activity.
