After almost a decade spent travelling around Australia shooting stories for Country Style, photographer Mark has noticed a common thread running through regional communities: “Every town I’ve visited seems to have a strong community spirit, and they are very encouraging and supportive of any new ventures,” he says. Dubbo and Wellington, in the NSW Central West, are no different. Here, the emerging food and café scene impressed, as did Taronga Western Plains Zoo, where Mark stayed overnight — “I was lucky as the weather was beautiful, so there was a fantastic sunrise.” He drove his kids at home in Melbourne wild with jealousy by sending them the photo above and another of him “covered in meerkats”.
