Mt Barker Sale report
Numbers were down for a small yarding of 611 mixed quality cattle at Mt Barker.
The yarding was dominated by young cattle with lightweight Angus steers selling to a top of 370c/kg. Weaner steers sold for 264c to 370c and heifers made 238c to 304c/kg for the best. Heavy yearling steers weighing over 400kg made 260c, medium weights sold from 240c to 328c while the lightweights made 280c/kg.
Heavy yearling heifers sold for 200c, medium weight heifers sold from 218c to 250c while the lighter weights made 240c to 248c/kg.
Grown Friesian steers sold from 170c to 198c to average 189c/kg.
Grown beef steers weighing 400500kg made 192c/kg. Grown heifers over 540kg sold for 210c/kg.
Heavy prime cows were down 2c on last week making 150c to 182c and store cows were down 15c selling from 130c to 166c/kg.
Heavy bulls made 132c to 162c, medium weights sold for 160c to 196c and lightweight bulls made from 196c to 272c/kg depending on weight and quality. A number of cattle sold by appraisal, with Poddy Friesian steer calves making $520 for the tops and $500/head for the seconds. Angus Friesian cross heifers sold from $650 to $870 for the tops. Angus cow and calf units made from $1260 up to $1960 for the best. Smaller framed units sold from $560 to $1100/unit.
