Give up the 9 to 5 and relax ... right?

Retirement is on the horizon and you’re over the moon — but only briefly. You wonder if retirement really is a cause for celebration these days. What will you do with all your time? Will you be healthy enough and have sufficient money to do everything you want to do?

Unfortunately for many, retiring these days is anything but relaxing. Between managing your finances, understanding the ever-changing super rules, staying healthy and worrying about the grandkids, who has time to relax?

In our 30s we pictured our retirement and imagined a stress-free time to enjoy the fruits of our hard work. Right now, you’re probably wishing you could go back to your 30-year-old self and offer three words of advice. Start saving early!

If you feel like this, then you aren’t alone. And that’s the reason WA Super has partnered with West Australian Newspapers on the Retirees’ Voice Survey.

We want to know what’s on your mind, so we’re asking you to take the time to fill in the survey.

We know that superannuation can be complicated, which is why we believe it’s important to know how to prepare for a comfortable retirement and to seek help with tough decisions.

No one plans to fail, they just fail to plan. We believe that it is really important to get professional help from either a financial planner or someone from your super fund. Don’t rely on what your mate says at the weekend barbecue!
