Big names a drawcard for 4WD show
It may have been decades since the Leyland Brothers appeared on our screens and established themselves as Australia’s best tourism guides, but Mal Leyland is still admired by the outdoor adventure community.
Still travelling around the country in his caravan, he is coming to Perth as a special guest of the 25th anniversary Perth 4WD and Adventure Show.
Mal and his brother Mike were pioneers, travelling through outback Australia before it become popular to do so, and discovering and filming in remote locations.
Mal will feature on the Engel Bush Camp Stage each day of the show, from November 10-12, at McCallum Park in Victoria Park.
Joining him will be a host of special guests to share in the show’s 25th anniversary celebration, including WA presenter and journalist Graham Cahill.
Show director Peter Woods said he was looking forward to welcoming Mr Cahill back to the show.
“Anyone who is into four-wheeldriving knows who Graham Cahill is,” he said. “As a presenter and journalist for 4WD Action, Graham Cahill has seen and experienced the outback firsthand, often through the lens of his camera.
“He’s regarded as one of the best 4WD photojournalists in the country.”
Visitors can enjoy a sneak peek of the first instalment of Terrain Tamers TV by WA and social media star “Jillaroo Jess” and Allan Gray.
The set of mechanical videos is due for release in November 2017.
The show features the latest in camper trailers, caravans, new model SUVs and 4WDs, camping gear, 4WD accessories, fishing gear and more.
Mr Woods said the show was designed as an all-in-one-place venue to find everything you need for an outdoor adventure.
“The show offers visitors an experience like to no other,” he said.
“The latest release products are all right there to check out, plus you can speak to the experts.
“If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, we have all the major brands on display, including Ford, Holden, Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Isuzu, Land Rover, Suzuki, Mazda, Volkswagen and Iveco. Visitors will be able to test out some of the latest-release vehicles on the test track, watch recovery demos and learn all kinds of tips and techniques.”
There is also something new for the young at heart, as Toyota teams up with Tonka to create a toy for the big kids. The stunning concept vehicle brings together the Tonka and “unbreakable” HiLux brands.
A full-sized dream toy for adults, the HiLux Tonka concept is an impressive rock-crawling truck that combines the enviable reputations for toughness and durability that dominate the Toyota and Tonka DNAs.
There is just one of these concept cars in Australia, and you can see it in action at the Perth 4WD and Adventure Show. The HiLux Tonka will be taking a run on the 4WD test track each day at the show.
