Fertility a Terraneil priority

Terraneil Poll Hereford stud, of Beverley, will be offering 20 bulls at the Invitational Bull Sale, to be held at WA College of Agriculture, Narrogin, on February 20 at 12.30pm.

Terraneil stud co-principal Terry Woods said the sale was an opportunity for breeders to tap into some of the Poll Hereford breed’s leading genetics.

“We are offering six bulls sired by Wirruna Habana H9 as well as 10 bulls sired by Glen Goulbourn Boston J81, plus another four bulls sired by Glen Goulburn Harricot,” he said.

“This is the second and last offering of Habana-sired bulls. Habana sons were well received last year and are well represented in this year’s sale line up.

“Habana’s offspring are showing all the attributes that the bull was selected for, with figures to match. Many of his progeny are curve benders with Estimated Breeding Values in the top percentile for most traits, particularly for calving ease, birth, growth, carcase and $Index.”

Like Habana, Mr Woods said new stud sire Glen Goulburn Boston was also a trait leader for growth carcase and $Index figures. “This is the first offering of bulls sired by Boston, and we are very impressed with their correctness, frame and carcase attributes, with very good figures to match,” he said.

Mr Woods said Glen Goulburn Haricot had bred very well for Terraneil stud, with the first sons out of Haricot-bred daughters to be offered in the sale.

“There is a selection of bulls for all breeding programs, from bulls suitable for heifers or bulls for mature cows, a combination able to increase weight, milk, muscle and profit,” he said.

“With Terraneil bulls selling to vast areas of the State and nationally, selection for fertility and do-ability has been our highest priority.

“Every cow in the Terraneil herd is there, because they have had an unassisted live calf as a two-year-old and every year after, and reared that calf through to weaning.

“Breedplan has also been a very important tool used in the herd, with all traits measured and recorded annually, ensuring our accuracy figures are as high as they can possibly be, giving our bull buyers confidence those EBV figures are accurate.”

Terraneil offers a freight subsidy on all bulls sold at Narrogin.

The Woods family invite inspection of the bulls before the sale.
