Young Guns built tough
Hyden-based Young Guns Murray Grey stud will be offering 15 bulls at the
Invitational Bull Sale at Narrogin on Tuesday, February 20.
Stud principal Lindsay Bagshaw has been delighted with the performance of the stud’s sale bulls, given the tough season. “The sale team offered are from a total of six different sires, including a selection of low birth weight sires for mating heifers,” he said. “The performance of the bulls are measured at various stages of the year and it’s good to know their growth during times when they have to scrounge in tougher paddock conditions.
“This is a great indicator of how they and their progeny will go on to perform for our clients and determine how the sires will keep condition during the mating period.
“Not only has the 2018 sale team been very consistent on performance and structure, while acknowledging the varying genetics of different sires used, they are very uniform with their scan figures also.”
Mr Bagshaw said the stud had selected animals that scanned well with good fat/muscle ratios for specific weight ranges with even fat cover.
“This provides clients the flexibility of having their progeny suitable to meet a large window of markets and fatten on a variety of feed sources,” Mr Bagshaw said.
“This is something Murray Greys are traditionally known for.
“My objective is always focused on producing consistent quality beef that consumers are going to want to keep buying. The genetics we are offering are quite unique, with many of the Young Guns female lines going directly back to the original families that breed founder Helen Sutherland worked with.
“From Young Guns’ beginning, it has been the stud’s goal to breed efficiency in an environmentally challenging area and strive for length, growth, temperament and structural soundness in the cattle, while maintaining the well-fleshed carcase characteristics we have been well known for.
“Constructing management systems has allowed Young Guns to identify highly efficient animals and genes within the Murray Grey breed. This has enabled us to fast track in producing an extremely productive herd.”
Young Guns Master Blaster M88 is one of 15 Murray Grey bulls on offer from the stud at the Invitational Bull Sale on Tuesday, February 20.
