Moojepin Merinos to $7k top
The Thompson family, of Moojepin stud, sold to a top of $7000 at their annual Multi Purpose Merino sale at Katanning.
Overall, the Thompsons catalogued 130 rams through Landmark, with 125 sold for an average price of $2118, up $78/head on last year when 130 rams sold for an average $2040.
The sale topper, tag 171690, sold to Dean Trotter, of Perillup Estate, Perrillup, who also secured a $3000 ram. Moojepin stud co-principal David Thompson said 171690 was a twin and recorded a 6.3kg WWT, 8.6kg PWWT, 1.1 PEMD, 1.0 Fat, 14.9 WCW and a 22.2 WSL.
“It was a solid sale from loyal support and producers are taking advantage of the Moojepin rams which are measured using Australian Sheep Breeding Values,” he said.
Broomehill account Norino Pty Ltd secured seven rams to a top of $5000 and average price of $2750.
Returning from Victoria, Stephen Smart secured three rams to a top of $4500 and average price of $3417.
Last year’s top buyer, Brad Patterson, of Bullock Hills, of Katanning, bought two rams for $4250 and $3000.
Northampton account WE & KL Pluschke paid $4250 for a ram. The Forrester family, who trade as Glenkeith Family Trust, of Kojonup, secured 11 rams to a top of $4000 and average price of $1841.
Mr Thompson said the Forresters also bought another 25 from private selections.
Six rams will head to Wagin on account of Westendale Grazing Co, which paid to a top of $3250 and average price of $2417.
Repeat buyer Kane Page, of Pingelly, secured one ram for $3500.
Moojepin rams will be heading across the Nullarbor with Egerton Farms manager Pat Hyland , of Lal Lal, Victoria, securing 20 rams for an average price of $1950.
Mr Hyland also bought privately another 25 Moojepin rams to make the journey.
Popanyinning account Marwonga Nomineers secured three rams to a top of $3250 and average price of $2583.
Woodanilling account R & J Garstone secured two rams for $3000 and $2000.
Moojepin rams will be heading throughout WA and across the Nullarbor after the Thompson family sold 125 rams at auction and many more in private negotiations.
