Mt Barker sale report
Numbers were up for a total yarding of 789 head of mixed quality cattle a last Thursday.
The offering was mainly store cattle with prices reflecting the quality throughout the sale.
A quality run of heavy cows sold to a top of 204c and a line of Angus weaner steers topped the market at 330¢/kg. Medium-weight weaner steers weighing 280-330kg sold for 315¢, while lighter weights increased in value making from 242¢ to 330¢ to average 304¢/kg.
Weaner heifers sold from 170¢ to 254¢ for the best to average 205¢/kg.
Yearling steers sold from 232¢ to 328¢ to average 295¢, while the yearling heifers made from 180¢ to 280¢.
Grown steers weighing 400500kg sold for 260¢/kg. Grown heifers weighing over 540kg made from 180¢ to 204¢ to average 192¢/kg.
Heavy prime cows eased 10¢ making from 170¢ to 204¢ to average 185¢/kg. Medium-weights sold from 170¢ to 185¢ and store cows made as little as 120¢ for light small-framed animals to 170¢ for larger framed cows to average 150¢/kg. Prime heavy bulls eased making from 170¢ to 188¢/kg.
