MAKE AN… APPLIQUÉ DRESS

Although very effective, this little dress on a washing line is super-easy to do!

Cross Stitcher - - The Savvy Stitcher -

Step1

PREPARE your fabric with a piece of Bondaweb. Bondaweb can be bought online or from your local haberdashery. It has an adhesive side which is backed with paper – place the adhesive side to the back of your fabric and iron in place.

Step 2

USE the dress template below to trace the outline onto the Bondaweb paper backing. Reverse the template as it will be mirrored once placed right-side up on the fabric’s surface. Cut out and remove the paper backing.

Step3

POSITION the fabric dress on your evenweave fabric and iron in place, without using steam. The adhesive side will bond to your cross stitch fabric. Repeat when applying the bird motifs too.

Step 4

ADD a freestyle backstitch outline around the dress, inset from the fabric edge. Use a single strand and sharp embroidery needle to follow the dress shape and work your backstitches.
