Honesty To Self

Sigmund Freud’s emphasis on honesty to the self as the gateway to understanding behaviour and personality inspired the design of the Sigmund bench and daybed collection by Paris-based Studio Asaï. The design reveals rather than conceals its construction method. A lacquered metal frame in black or dark blue supports a simply shaped upholstered seat, with brass screws highlighting the connection points. The brass elements (which also include the feet beneath the frame) are expressed as bright, precious details – doing away with the need to analyse and uncover to find the underpinnings of the structure. The daybed and bench forms were chosen by Studio Asaï (rather than other forms of furniture) for their capacity to encourage contemplation and introspection via lying down and sitting.
