BRITAIN’S BEST CLIMBS
HILLS YOU NEED TO HAMMER
Here’s a climb blessed with stunning views of the Dorset AONB and English Channel - you just won’t see any of it until you reach the top because it’s all going on behind you.
Climbing starts almost as soon as you’ve left the village of Abbotsbury, but for the first half mile it’s all rather benign, with just the odd short section forcing you out of the saddle.
With a third of the mile distance to go, it begins to take on walllike attributes, with close to 100m at over 20 per cent. At the top the views are reward for your toil - having gained almost 500ft, the flatter fields stretching all the way to the coast emphasise the work you’ve just done.
Look out for more on this climb in issue 330, with our Big Ride based in the region.
