Giant wins on weight with the Rapid over 2kg lighter. The double-butted frame is finished with smooth welds and rack/guard mounts. A composite fork reduces weight and offers buzz-defying comfort. Quick-release dropouts fail the security test compared to the bolted-as-standard wheel on the Bad Boy with its single-sided fork.

A Shimano 2x11 105 groupset is contemporary, and performs flawlessly. The shifters are a highlight, and Shimano hydro discs offer ample stopping power. The stem is long and the bar narrow, which is fine on longer, faster commutes, but urbanites might want something shorter and wider when weaving around vehicles.

Giant’s PR Disc 2 wheels are paired with 28mm P-R3 tyres. The combination is quick rolling and gets up to speed fast. It’s not the most compliant mix, but if you want to cover a longer commute fast, it’s a good choice.

If you have a long commute from village to town you’ll appreciate the racy position and fast wheels. If you’re town based, we’d suggest chunkier tyres and different cockpit.
