The 2018 Giro d’Italia will be­gin with Grand Tour rac­ing’s first ven­ture out­side Europe and a three-day stay in Is­rael. It opens with a 10.1km time trial in Jerusalem, along­side stage fin­ishes in Tel Aviv and Ei­lat.

Great Bri­tain’s Tom Pid­cock won the ju­nior men’s TT world ti­tle in Ber­gen - the first ju­nior Brit male to win a medal of any kind since the race was first in­cluded in 1994. Fabian Can­cel­lara is a past win­ner.

LAPP’S LAND­SLIDE

For­mer Bri­tish Cy­cling pres­i­dent Brian Cook­son lost out on his bid to be re-elected as UCI pres­i­dent, with French­man David Lap­par­tient win­ning the vote 37-8.

UN­DER RE­VIEW

The gov­ern­ment has launched an ur­gent re­view to ex­am­ine whether new road laws for cy­clists are needed, fol­low­ing the death of pedes­trian Kim Briggs. Cy­cle cam­paign­ers have ques­tioned the swift­ness of the move given they’ve de­layed a promised re­view into all traf­fic of­fences for three years.

MOUN­TAIN MON­STER

The course for the 2018 road world champs in Inns­bruck has been un­veiled - and only climbers need ap­ply. The 265km men’s course has al­most 5000m of up­hill.
