SMP claims that its extensive ergonomic studies into riders’ shapes and their position on the bike mean that a saddle should be designed to support physical weight and its distribution over the pelvic bones. It claims its design spreads weight precisely over the ischial tuberosity (sit bones), while protecting the coccyx from bruises and shocks from rough road surfaces.

The deep elastomerbased padding and split design are claimed to prevent compression in the delicate perineal structure, thus avoiding vein and capillary vessel damage and the chance of nerve injury.
