CUBE ATTAIN GTC SLT DISC
THREE THINGS WE LOVE ABOUT THE... £2099
It’s a great spec for the price
This 2018 Cube Attain GTC SLT has a full Shimano Ultegra groupset. The hydraulic disc braking from the 160mm rotors is up there with the best, and the compact cassette, wide 11-32 cassette combination will cope with anything and everything, efficiently and quietly.
Its mainly muted appearance disguises a lovely ride that’s great for long days out. The geometry is on the endurance side, with dropped seatstays and a slightly taller head-tube than Cannondale’s Synapse and Specialized’s Roubaix for example. Comfort is aided by 28mm tyres and the flattened Wing Race bar, which is great for riding on the tops. Thru-axles contribute to superbly controlled stopping and very neat internal cabling rounds things off.
Okay, a mile-muncher it may be, but its angles are quite racy – 72.5-degree head, 73.5-degree seat – and it’s reasonably light. It’s no slouch if you don’t want to hang around, climbs and descends well and for added yearround practicality there are hidden mudguard fittings. A fine all-rounder.
ONE THING WE’D CHANGE The largely anonymous look
We could barely make out the grey-on-black Cube logo, with only yellow flashes and rim decals adding lustre. It’s a shame, as the bright blue Cubes ridden by Wanty-Groupe Gobert looked striking during numerous Tour de France breakaways this year. It’s a great bike, so Cube should shout about it a little louder!
