TESLA CYBERTRUCK SENDS SHOCKS
Unlike anything on the market
With great fanfare, Elon Musk took to the stage to reveal the highly anticipated Cybertruck, a fully electric utility vehicle boasting impressive on-paper performance and capability.
Taking a drastic step away from the traditional design language used by other automakers, and even Tesla themselves, the Cybertruck looks akin to a vehicle you’d find in the Bladerunner or Tron movies. The Cybertruck uses a stainless steel exterior shell, to provide superior durability and passenger protection, as well as a special type of glass – even though the demonstration of its strength spectacularly failed on stage.
Questions have been raised regarding the Cybertruck and its ability to meet safety standards for collisions and pedestrians. During the launch presentation, a Tesla team member took a sledgehammer to the door of a Ford F150 and then the Cybertruck itself showcasing the lack of any damage to the Telsa, compared to the significantly damaged F150 door. We’ll have to wait until closer to the launch of the Cybertruck to learn more about any official crash test ratings.
The new Tesla will be available in the US with three different motor configurations: Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD, and Tri Motor AWD. As you step up with each configuration, battery range, acceleration and towing capacity improves and will challenge competing brands that won’t have the advantage of the torque and power delivery which the electric motors provide.
Pre-orders are open, but pricing for the Australian market is yet to be issued. There are no indications of which configurations will make their way down under. However, in the US, pricing starts from $39,900 USD.
Production doesn’t start until 2021, but if you’re thinking about buying one you’ll have to join the line, more than 250,000 orders were placed in the first week.
