Truck fire, smoke shuts Hwy

THE Bruce High­way was closed for some time Wed­nes­day morn­ing af­ter a trailer car­ry­ing poly-pipe caught fire Be­tween Proser­pine and Blooms­bury.

Fire and emer­gency ser­vices ar­rived at the fire at 7.20am to find the trailer with poly-pipe had been de­tached from the truck that was car­ry­ing it.

By 7.28am the fire was un­der control and then re­ported as ex­tin­guished be­fore 8am.

Po­lice di­verted traf­fic away from the O’Con­nell River bridge even af­ter the fire was out as the trailer con­tin­ued to bel­low out smoke. Queensland Am­bu­lance Ser­vices was also called but there were no injuries and the paramedics weren’t needed.

By mid-morn­ing the high­way was re­opened.
