Ri­fle ex­ploded in man’s face

A MAN was taken to hos­pi­tal af­ter a ri­fle ex­ploded in his face in the Isaac re­gion on Fri­day night.

Paramedics were called to a pri­vate prop­erty off the Bruce High­way about 40-50km south of St Lawrence at 6.13pm, a Queens­land Am­bu­lance spokesman said.

They treated a 64-year-old man who had suf­fered a frac­tured eye socket af­ter the ri­fle blew up dur­ing use.

The man was taken to Rock­hamp­ton Hos­pi­tal to be treated for his in­juries.

A spokes­woman for Rock­hamp­ton Hos­pi­tal said on Satur­day the man had been trans­ferred to Brisbane for fur­ther care, in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Ear­lier this year, a 17-year-old girl was in­jured in an ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a firearm at Dev­ereux Creek.

The July 8 in­ci­dent, in which a gun was ac­ci­den­tally fired, re­sulted in the girl be­ing taken to hos­pi­tal with in­juries to her hand and leg.
