Daily Mercury - - NEWS OPINION -

THE school holidays are here and households right across the region are getting turned upside down.

The routine of work and school life is shaken; it’s the best and worst of family life!

Luckily for the next two weeks the Daily Mercury will feature some of the things that kids can do with their spare time.

And anyone with kids will know spare time comes quickly.

Five minutes after finishing one activity, most children will start harping on about being bored.

Fear not parents, there is so much to do and see these school holidays thanks to the council and the dozens of sporting clubs around the region, among others.

A lot of sporting clubs are starting their training workshops and introduction classes to get more children involved, while the council holds events at the regional libraries, gardens and galleries.

That’s not to mention all the art classes and then there are the special movie screenings.

A lot of these activities take time and effort to set up, and in particular the sports clubs, by an army of volunteers.

Mackay is a very active community, and it shows the most at junior sporting events right across the region.

So take advantage of some of the things put on to keep your kids busy during the school holidays. It’s your support that will make sure they’re here next school holidays.
