In reference to the article on Sticks and Stones (DM 11/10/17), I would like to know how you can judge sound travel from one position. I assure you that I hear every sound from every event held there. From the loud music, screaming, yelling, car horns beeping and burnouts. — DR, Mt Jukes Croc killed old lady... cull them now. — HDB, Alligator Creek For poor Glencore miners. I feel so sorry for you. Fancy having to pay $30 a week rent. How will you survive? Why don’t you give your jobs to people who deserve it? — JL, Racecourse It’s outrageous that Glencore wants to increase the rent of a 3-4 bedroom house from $15 to $30. How can a miner earning $150k a year possibly afford that? Maybe the CFMEU can set up a Go Fund Me page and we can all donate to ease their financial pain. — RZ, Andergrove I am one of those households that “wasted” their dump voucher – because I have no way of getting it to the dump. For goodness sake, have an annual roadside collection! It might stop illegal dumping too and help the elderly ratepayers. — RO, Andergrove Letting children call adults by their Christian names loses respect of the elder – as is evident today. — LM, Andergrove — Online shopping is great but so sad when a fantastic business like this has to close because of it. People whinge and moan about there being nothing in the town, but then don’t support the businesses we do have! The customer service and specialist product knowledge that Lucy and John Dillon have is going to be missed greatly! I always recommend Lucy to anyone wanting advice and supplies for cake decorating!! Glad to read that the cake decorating will continue but sad this wonderful shop will no longer be there! — Kelly Walz My heart bleeds for the poor CFMEU workers at Oaky North. Housing rent to increase to $30/week and camp accomodation to $48/ week. They must really find it hard to survive on the wages they receive with such “enormous” increases. I only wish that I had those sort of issues to deal with. Life would be just great. You lot are a disgrace. — JL, South Mackay Adani sets new date. Could it be the 12th of Never? — KH, South Mackay Shouldn’t Qld Govt and Fed Govt be using the NAIF infrastructure monies to build another two-lane highway from Rocky to Cairns so you’ve got two-lanes up and two down so less head-ons, flood proofed. Instead giving money away to a billionaire to build a mine. After all we pay too much for rego and tax and see nothing for it... — RS McEwens Beach Queensland government – what hypocrites they are saying they are doing the best to bring power prices down and Ergon, the state-owned power company, puts prices up 2 cents a kilowatt last bill. This state needs someone who has half a brain more than the pollies we have now. Coal at our doorstep, best quality in the world, and we sell it to the rest of the world while we rely on the wind and they have cheap power. No wonder Pauline Hanson is getting more and more votes. — GP, Beaconsfield It is a pity that even if these politicans are turfed out by the High Court decision, they can immediately re-nominate in special by-lections. I would suggest that the High Court go one further and provide an interpretation that would also exclude them from returning (via special by-election) for the remainder of the term of government High Court found them originally ineligible. — TLD, Dysart To the rude women in the car at the loco crossing at Racecourse Wednesday night. Maybe if you weren’t on your phone you would have realised that the loco had passed and the lights had been stopped for 5 minutes. I’m sure if the roadworks weren’t there people would have driven around you. Silly women – still on the phone at the bypass road. Rego and details passed to police. Fed up. — LA, Walkerston EJ, Eimeo, the point I am making is that the cat problem is a human problem, just like the wild dogs and pigs – not to forget cane toads and a list of other introduced species including flora, eg weeds. The cats didn’t cause it. Do something constructive, like get a cat trap, the humane ones, and put some food in it – and get the council or Mars to pick them up. Don’t be cruel to them... be nice. Yep, the most dangerous animal on the planet is Human. — AZ, Mackay I find it amazing that males like George Christensen have the prognostic crystal ball for women carrying unwanted babies than the pregnant mothers themselves and their welfare. Is George Christensen the pro-lifer going to contribute to the upbringing of the unwanted new borns in Dawson? ... forcing women to give birth is not going to Make Australia Great Again. It’s 2017, it’s her decision and her decision alone. — GB, Eimeo
