Rotary plans next community car raffle, thrilled by 2018 effort

Daily Mercury - - NEWS -

ROTARY Club of Mackay North is already hashing out plans for the third annual Great Community Car Raffle after staggering support flowed in from dozens of organisations across the Mackay region this year.

Seventy-three community groups jumped on board to raise a massive $93,000 from the raffle of a new Mitsubishi Lancer, donated by North Jacklin.

The car was won by Cathy Knudsen last month.

The funds raised are split on the basis of raffle tickets sold, explained Rotarian and raffle organiser Frank Caruana – who previously worked at North Jacklin for about three decades.

He worked closely alongside North Jacklin’s promotions and marketing manager Brad Doolan, and a bunch of rotary volunteers, to successfully coordinate the considerable community effort.

The raffle has provided a welcome financial boost, sometimes reaching several thousand dollars, to groups which sold the tickets, according to Mr Caruana.

He was pleased to see such widespread support for the raffle and was quick to offer his thanks to North Jacklin for the generous donation of the new car.

Mr Caruana also revealed Dragons Abreast had sold the winning ticket this year.
