New silage wrap re­cy­cling pro­gram

A NEW silage plas­tic re­cy­cling pro­gram will make it eas­ier and cheaper for lo­cal farm­ers to dis­pose of silage wrap in an en­vi­ron­men­tally con­scious way.

Co­or­di­nated by Welling­ton, East Gipp­s­land and South Gipp­s­land shires, lo­cal farm­ers are en­cour­aged to drop off used silage wrap in bulka bags at the fol­low­ing points:

Kil­many Trans­fer Sta­tion Yar­ram Trans­fer Sta­tion Bairns­dale Land­fill Or­bost Trans­fer Sta­tion Koon­warra Trans­fer Sta­tion Foster Trans­fer Sta­tion Drop-offs can be made from July 17-30 July dur­ing nor­mal op­er­at­ing hours. There is a charge of $11 per bulka bag.

Silage wrap dropped off for re­cy­cling should be shaken clean of silage, gravel and other con­tam­i­nants be­fore be­ing bun­dled up and put in bulka bags.

Farm­ers should con­tact their lo­cal coun­cil for more de­tails.
