Can’t catch me: Speed racer hero’s win

Dalby Herald - - FRONT PAGE -

RACING in a new car, on an unfamiliar track, did not have Terry Leerentveld feeling confident in the lead-up to last weekend’s South Australia Titles.

After performing well and achieving a first, second and third in the heats, however, the Dalby mod-lite driver took the lead in the feature race from the second lap.

Leerentveld managed to withstand multiple restarts in the race, proving unbeatable among a strong field.

“(The new car) took a little bit to get the hang of, and I had a few little issues, but then after that, by the end of the night, we had the car going really good,” he said.

“There were about 30 drivers in our category... wasn’t confident that I’d take the win; in a couple of heats the other guys were quicker than I was, but we made a change to our car and took a gamble, and it worked out.”

With the national titles approaching this weekend, Leerentveld said his recent success had left him feeling good.

“I’m definitely feeling confident. We’re getting our stuff sorted and know which way to go with car set-up, and I think we’re going to be a very strong contender,” he said.

“I reckon I’ve got more speed up my sleeve.

“I just want to say thanks to Randall Morris for coming down and helping, and my wife Angela, and Nathan from Edge Racing Australia.

“Landmark in Dalby are sponsoring us as well, so a big thanks to Murray for coming on board.”
