Speedway racer gets over the line
MOTORSPORTS: It was a bittersweet finish to Terry Leerentveld’s South Australian tour, but the optimistic speedway racer said all good things must come to an end.
Leerentveld beat the US No.1 to bring home the South Australian Title, but couldn’t defend his ModLite Australian Title against fellow Queenslander Aaron Prosser at Westline Speedway, Whyalla, last weekend.
The champion racer placed fifth and said luck was not on his side after he battled a number of issues with his new edge chassis.
“Out of four heats I didn’t finish well,” he said.
“One of them I had the accelerator cable jammed on. I couldn’t release the thing, it was just flat and then my motor started over-heating.
“It was just teething issues with a new car.
“We were the favourites to win but the next race I got a front right flat tyre and then we were way back on points... we just had trouble all weekend with little gremlins.”
Leerentveld still holds the Queensland No.1 title, but will have to wait a year to battle it our for the Australian title again.
“I need to get my game on and feel this new car out and I believe it will be a fast car when I get it sorted,” he said.
