Get to know fire captain Peter Mauch
Peter talks family, opportunities, and luck
What’s your favourite thing about the Western Downs region?
It is still one of the only places in Queensland that is ideal to raise a family. Good education opportunities and sporting clubs to keep our kids active.
What is the best sound in the world to you?
Probably hearing yourself breathe is always a good start to the day. We certainly need to make the most of every day that comes our way.
Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?
Jason Statham – mainly because he has a similar haircut.
What do you think the greatest invention has been?
Recliner chairs – My wife tells me I spend far too much time in mine but I disagree with her on that. I spend just the right amount of time reading the funny pages.
Do you have any lucky items, objects or traditions?
No, you need to work hard to make your own luck.
Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?
Safari suits – I have one of my dad’s still hanging in the cupboard. It has seen a few 70s parties in the last couple years. Always looks a treat!
What three things do you think of most each day?
Food, beer and then food, but not necessarily in that order.
What’s been the best decision you’ve made in your life so far?
I’d say moving to Dalby when I was looking for work 34 years ago. I was only going to stay for 12 months, but I’m still here.
Who are the three people you most admire – dead or living?
I’d have to say both my mum and dad. I obviously owe them a lot. I also think that anyone who gives their time to charity and community work are people to admire. A local lady named Flora Farley springs to mind, she has been a great supporter of the local firefighters for a number of years.
What historical period would you like to live in if you could go back in time?
Pretty happy with living right now.
We have plenty of things to make our life easier these days and who knows what things will look like in the future.
If you could change, make, or influence one thing in the world what would it be?
Donald Trump’s hairdo. What’s going on there? What are you looking forward to this year?
Looking forward to holiday time when I get to spend a bit of time at the Sunshine Coast with the family.
