Wheat­men unite for end of year

NEARLY 200 play­ers, sup­port­ers, spouses and spon­sors packed the Dalby Show­grounds on Satur­day night to cel­e­brate the Dalby Rugby Union Club’s suc­cess­ful 2017 sea­son.

As back-to-back Ris­don Cup Pre­miers in the Downs Rugby Com­pe­ti­tion the club had plenty to revel in and player awards were go­ing to be com­pet­i­tive.

Fol­low­ing pre-din­ner re­fresh­ments and the Club Pres­i­dent’s ad­dress by Roger Lyne, the in­di­vid­ual grade awards got un­der­way with the Women’s Sevens, C-grade, B-grade and A-grade awards an­nounced.

The club then recog­nised their premier­ship win­ning A-grade side with a jersey pre­sen­ta­tion, which was fol­lowed by ac­knowl­edge­ment of the Downs Rugby Awards re­ceived by the club in­clud­ing Club Cham­pi­ons, Mi­nor Pre­miers in A and B-grade, Best and Fairest Player (Sam Hog­a­rth), Top Point Scorer (Dan Merker), Am­bu­lance Shield, Player of the Fi­nal (Sam Hog­a­rth) and the Ris­don Cup tro­phy.

The night then pro­ceeded to the an­tic­i­pated club awards with A-grade Cap­tain Sam Hog­a­rth re­ceiv­ing the Frank Edgar Me­mo­rial Tro­phy for Most Out­stand­ing Player in 2017.
