CRICKET: The new cricket season got off to a false start this weekend as Mother Nature took away any chance a ball being bowled in the opening weekend.

Both round one fixtures were abandoned on Saturday morning due to the rain from the previous evening.

It was not all doom and gloom for the association, as youngsters headed down to the club on Saturday morning to sign-up for the junior season.

Roughly 50 juniors turned up to the associations sign-on day with many more expected to join before the season starts this Saturday.

Treasurer of the Dalby Cricket Association, Lorraine Monaghan, said all juniors still wishing to play can join.

“If there are any kids in the region who could not make it down last Saturday, we encourage them to come to the grounds this Saturday morning,” she said.

“We will be able to sign them up and place them into a team for the season.

“Cricket is great fun for kids, and it is very social as well.”
