Paddy powers to placings in Nelson
GYMNASTICS: Dalby gymnast Patrick Rudd has returned from New Zealand with a pair of placings at a recent event.
The Trans-Tasman Challenge was held last weekend in Nelson, with Rudd placing fifth overall for the event and placing in two apparatus.
A second placing in pommel and a third in the high bar rounded out a great performance.
Rudd said he was very pleased with the result.
“I was pretty happy with the performance last week,” Rudd said.
“I did not have the best preparation so I was happy it all came together.
“I was not expecting to achieve these placings.”
Rudd’s coach Niall O’Leary said he was pleased with his gymnast’s performance over the two-day competition.
“Any of the boys who are able to get a result while representing Australia is a great achievement,” O’Leary said.
“Paddy performed well in the Level Nine category, and to be fifth overall is a great result.”
Rudd said he is now into his off-season, with no more competitions left for the year.
He is focusing on being graded to a Level 10 gymnast next year, the highest grading achievable.
