Cattle shine at Dalby Beef Bonanza despite tough conditions
IT MAY have been a very tough year for Darling Downs cattle farmers, but you wouldn’t know it looking at the quality on show at the third annual Dalby Beef Bonanza.
Ray White Eastern Rural livestock administrator Brooke Noller said the sale reduced significantly in size thanks to the drought conditions, but the quality was all there.
The Dalby Beef Bonanza started three years ago as a way to showcase some of the finest cattle from across the Darling Downs region.
Ms Noller said this year the show consisted of mainly prime cattle with a few weaners.
“Obviously with the dry conditions it was a really tough year for farmers, so it was scaled down compared to the past few years,” she said.
“But it was good to give farmers with cattle on feed the opportunity to win some prize money.
“Some only had 50 head where they might have usually had 150 in better years but the quality was still there.
“Looking at the cattle you wouldn’t have known what the farmers were going through.”
