Detour Holdings had a couple of R560 Scanias on show at Alexandra. According to driver Paul Mammi, they’re just two of eight Scanias in the company’s fleet.
Born and bred in Melbourne, this was Paul’s first time entering a truck in the show, although he drove up last year “to have a look”.
However, he did take part in last year’s Lights on the Hill Convoy in Queensland, along with fellow driver Mark Pritchard.
“Mark is Brisbane-based and does Lights on the Hill usually every year,” he says.
Before joining Detour Holdings two years ago, Paul spent eight years driving in Perth.
“I moved to Perth to learn, but I wanted to find a place around home so I could keep driving and be close to the family.”
He’s now clocked up around 330,000km with Detour Holdings, hauling produce for the Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane markets.
“It’s a good company to work for, and Colin Beer’s a great bloke, so it’s good to come out and get a bit of exposure for him too.”
